What is a Taco Salad?

Taco salad is all the yummiest parts of a taco with fewer calories and carbs because it is eaten without the shell. When made with lean meat and eaten with just a sprinkling of salad tortilla strips. Even Taco Bell has hopped on the low-carb train by taking the tortilla bowl out of their taco salad. The best part of making it yourself is knowing all the ingredients your family is eating. As a family with various food allergies, simple recipes like this make enjoying our favorite foods at home possible. When time permits we make dinner prep a family affair and when we are in a hurry we purchase as many pre-made ingredients as possible.

My Keto-Friendly Taco Salad Ingredients

I make a larger amount than the typical recipe because my loves to eat it for days! We keep all the ingredients separate so that each person can decide how they want to eat their leftovers. Some like their beef heated up, while others prefer it cold.

How to Make this Keto-Friendly Taco Salad

If you purchase everything except for the meat pre-made, the process is super easy. Just brown the ground beef, drain, put back in pan with taco seasoning and water, and simmer for 10 minutes or until ready. Place lettuce in bowls, add meat, cheese, and the desired toppings of each person.

Otherwise, prepare your guacamole and pico de gallo as normal. Chop lettuce. Then brown, drain and simmer the meat in the same manner. Build bowls to the liking of each diner.
